Fazıl Say criticizes Özgür Özel over 'playlist'

CHP leader Özel recently shared a list of his 15 most-listened-to songs during a YouTube program he attended. Stating, "I could be a YouTuber," Özel added that he used to act as a DJ while vacationing with his boarding school friends. Fazıl Say has now criticized the list in question.

World-renowned pianist Fazıl Say shared a post on his social media account regarding the list of 15 songs that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel revealed during the 'Ben Söylerim' program hosted by journalist Bahar Feyzan on YouTube.

"The vote potential is clear; a 'one song for every segment' list has been created," Say said, also criticizing the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, which appeared at the end of Özel's list, stating, "This is the name of an orchestra, not a song or a piece."

Say concluded his post with the sentence, "As for the arabesque list; let it play whatever your heart desires, brother. Whatever you wish... But know that this is not Atatürk's path!!!"

"PHARMACISTS ARE CULTURED"

Sharing his thoughts on Özel's playlist via the social media platform X, Say wrote:

"I saw the list where CHP Chairman Özgür Özel shared his 15 favorite songs. I experienced a momentary 'cognitive decline.'

A bit of arabesque, pop, popular culture, well, the man is right, the vote potential is clear; a 'one song for every segment' list has been created.

However; the 15th song caught my attention. 'Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra!!!' My dear brother, the Berlin Philharmonic is the name of an orchestra. Not a song or a piece. What are you listening to? Beethoven's 7th Symphony by the Berlin Philharmonic? Which conductor? What is it? What is this? Explain.

I mean, my mother is a pharmacist. All pharmacists know this, and all children of pharmacists are also pharmacy assistants, they know. They know 200 recordings...

Pharmacists are cultured, you can't say things like that.

Also; the song 'Yiğidim Aslanım' is on Mr. Özgür's list; the music (meaning the composer) has been corrected to Theodorakis in recent years, I didn't know either, I was a bit surprised by this development, actually quite surprised, publishing houses, copyright institutions, they have reported it this way. That addition was necessary next to that song's name, let us also warn the CHP on this matter.

As for the arabesque list; let it play whatever your heart desires, brother. Whatever you wish... But know that this is not Atatürk's path!!!"
