Ferit Edgü has passed away

Writer Ferit Edgü has passed away.

Edgü, 88, was born in Istanbul on February 24, 1936. He produced works in genres including poetry, short stories, novels, plays, essays, biographies, criticism, and aphorisms.

In a message published by Everest Yayınları regarding Edgü's passing, it was stated: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our esteemed author Ferit Edgü... We extend our condolences to his family, his readers, and all his loved ones."

WHO IS FERİT EDGÜ?

Ferit Edgü continued his education, which he began at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts Painting Department, in Paris (1959-1964). He studied ceramics at the Académie du Feu. He attended philosophy courses at the Sorbonne and art history courses at the Louvre.

After completing his military service as a reserve officer teacher in Hakkari and Beypazarı (1967), he stayed in Paris for another year before settling in Istanbul (1968). He worked as a copywriter at Man Ajans. He later left to establish his own advertising agency.

In addition to his short story writing, he became famous for his art criticism and essays. He had been managing Ada Yayınları since 1977. He stepped into literature with the magazine Kaynak. He wrote poems between 1952 and 1953. However, his first short story was published in the magazine Yeni Ufuklar in January 1954. During the same years, his poems were also published in Şairler Yaprağı (1954) and Mavi (1954). Later, he became known for his short stories in Yeni Ufuklar, Vatan Sanat Eki, Mavi, Pazar Postası, and Dost (1954-1959), as well as his essays and reviews in magazines such as Ataç, Yeni Dergi, Eylem, Papirüs, Ant, Soyut, Milliyet Sanat, and Hürriyet Gösteri.
