Fewer than 10 people live in 70 villages in Turkey

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, the country's population increased by 427 thousand 224 in one year, reaching 86 million 92 thousand 168. As of 2025, 93.6 percent of the population lives in city and district centers, while the proportion of those living in towns and villages has declined to 6.4 percent. This rate was recorded as 6.6 percent the previous year.

The population decline in rural areas continues. The number of people residing in towns and villages decreased by 2.1 percent compared to last year, falling to 5 million 536 thousand 693.

The number of villages with a population of 1,000 or more across the country was determined to be 456. Records show that the village of İpekli in the central district of Adıyaman is Turkey's most populous village with 6 thousand 681 residents. This village is followed by Karacaören in Çanakkale with 6 thousand 668, and Taşpınar village, also in Adıyaman, with 6 thousand 268. Mende in central Uşak (5 thousand 946) and the village of Samanlı in Yalova (5 thousand 696) are among the other densely populated villages.

Some of the country's villages, however, are almost completely deserted. Among the villages where only one person is registered are Kayalıbağ in Bitlis, Çattepe in Siirt, and Tarlabaşı in Iğdır. While 2 people live in the village of Akımlı in Bingöl, 3 people each reside in the villages of Maltepe in Bingöl, Dilekli in Hakkari, and Kalfalar in Kütahya.

The number of people living in Kemerli village in the central district of Şırnak was recorded as 4, and in Cevizdüzü village as 5.
