According to a report in the DailyMail, 23-year-old Kirah Line was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in July 2022, when she was just 21 years old. The treatment process that began after the diagnosis completely changed her life. During her treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Kirah remained in a coma for three weeks due to sepsis. When she woke up from the coma in January 2023, she had completely forgotten about her cancer diagnosis.
When she woke up, her situation gradually began to become clear and she faced the reality. Kirah describes the moment before the coma as follows: "When they asked me what day it was, I said, 'It's almost New Year's,' but the new year had already passed."
Kirah, who began getting sick frequently in early 2022, had initially learned that she had a vitamin D deficiency. However, as her condition worsened, she admitted that she had ignored some of the symptoms. Finally, in July 2022, she received a cancer diagnosis following a biopsy. She stated that she could never forget that moment: "When I heard the word cancer, I don't remember anything else. The doctors were kind and understanding, but I can never forget that moment."
THE PROCESS OF STARTING LIFE ANEW
Waking up from her coma in January 2023, Kirah underwent retraining to walk, eat, and even stand up again. She received therapy to strengthen her muscles and tried to cope with the difficulties in her right leg. "Getting out of bed or putting my hair up is sometimes not possible. I miss my old life, but I am learning to deal with this new reality," she said, touching upon the difficulty of the process.
No longer able to work actively, Kirah is studying social work at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. She stated that she is focusing on her degree for 2024 and rebuilding her life. Struggling with challenges such as heart conditions and arthritis following her cancer treatment, Kirah emphasized that she has discovered her resilience during this period of her life and has set new goals.
This struggle that Kirah has experienced once again highlights the effects of health problems encountered at a young age and the difficulties of the recovery process.
