Former bureaucrat sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexual assault

In Japan, former ministry bureaucrat Sato Dai has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting 6 women by drugging them with sleeping pills.

The case against former Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry bureaucrat Sato Dai, who was accused of committing sexual assaults in the capital between July and December 2022, was heard at the Tokyo District Court.

According to the indictment, the prosecution requested a 13-year prison sentence for the defendant, Sato, who sexually assaulted women at various hotels and restaurants in Tokyo after spiking their drinks with drugs.

DESCRIBED AS 'TREACHEROUS' AND 'SELFISH'

In accordance with the court's decision, 34-year-old former bureaucrat Sato was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting 6 women after giving them sleeping pills.

In the verdict, the crimes committed by Sato were described as "dangerous, treacherous, and selfish, disregarding human dignity."

Presiding Judge Nakao Yoshihisa stated regarding the decision: "(Sato) mixed sleeping pills into their drinks while the victims were not looking to ensure they could not resist. This is a despicable crime that strips the victim of their ability to make decisions and disregards their dignity."

The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry had dismissed Sato in May 2023, after it was reported that he had admitted to the charges in previous hearings.
