Renowned director, screenwriter, and producer Tomris Giritlioğlu, who had been receiving treatment for lung cancer for some time, has passed away at the age of 67. A funeral ceremony was held at Teşvikiye Mosque for Giritlioğlu, who contributed significant works to Turkish cinema. In addition to Giritlioğlu's family and relatives, many famous figures from the art community attended the ceremony.
"HER WAY OF TELLING STORIES WAS UNIQUE TO HER"
Stating that Tomris Giritlioğlu succeeded very well in being a woman in the industry, actor Cansel Elçin said, “She was my mentor, my professional mother. She had already withdrawn from the market for the last 10 years. We notice her absence. Her way of telling stories was unique to her. She told stories so beautifully. It is difficult to be a woman in the industry. She succeeded at that very well, too. That is why she might have appeared tough from the outside. It was a position she took against that male dominance. It is a great loss for the industry. She didn't just raise actors; she also raised directors and screenwriters. From now on, our duty is to pass on what she taught us.”
"SHE HAD A GREAT IMPACT ON ALL OF US"
Stating that Giritlioğlu had an impact on many actors in the industry, actor Fırat Tanış said, “Tomris Hanım was a school. She achieved the impossible. She had a great impact on all of us. We would meet and greet each other from time to time. I believe her illness had progressed in recent times.”
"SHE WAS A DOYEN WHO BROUGHT US INTO THE INDUSTRY"
Saying that Giritlioğlu was a doyen, actor Hüseyin Avni Dalyan said, "May we all have our condolences. May the industry have its condolences. She was a doyen who brought us into the industry. She saw something in us that we couldn't see in ourselves. She said, 'You can do this.' We can truly say she is one of those people in the industry who cannot be replaced because Tomris Giritlioğlu was everything.”
"WE HAVE LOST A VERY VALUABLE ARTIST"
Stating that they have lost a very valuable artist, Belçim Bilgin said, "As a woman, the fact that she did everything that everyone in our industry said couldn't be done, and actually so much more—words are meaningless to describe Tomris Giritlioğlu. The traces she left are the same. We have lost a very valuable artist. But all the values she left behind will continue to live with us.”
The funeral prayer for Tomris Giritlioğlu was held following the afternoon prayer. Giritlioğlu's remains will be interred at the Antakya Asri Cemetery on Wednesday, September 25.
