An assailant, who allegedly waited in front of the hospital where Dilan Polat is receiving treatment throughout the day, followed Dilan Polat's bodyguard, Alper Ş.
ATTACKED WHILE GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE
The suspect, who kept bodyguard Alper Ş. occupied on the phone for a while, fled after firing 7 shots just as Alper Ş. was about to get into his car. Three of the bullets struck Alper Ş.'s body.
The wounded bodyguard was taken under treatment at the Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital.
Police teams conducting crime scene investigations in the area have launched an operation to apprehend the attacker.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
ENGİN POLAT VISITED
Dilan Polat's husband, Engin Polat, arrived at the hospital where Alper Ş. is being treated for his injuries to receive information about his condition.
STATEMENT FROM THE POLAT FAMILY'S LAWYER
Following the armed attack, the Polat family's lawyer, Sevinç Horoz, issued a written statement.
Horoz included the following statements in her announcement:
"Neither my client Engin Polat nor any of the family members were in the vehicle where the attack took place. The attack was carried out from a very close range at a moment when traffic was congested and vehicles were not moving, and the perpetrator acted with the intent to take the life of our colleague on duty. Not only the vehicle where the staff were located, but also pedestrians and citizens in other vehicles nearby were put in great danger. The incident in question is not a clash, but a one-sided armed attack. Although the bodyguards have licensed weapons, they did not respond to the attacker in any way in order not to risk anyone's safety, as they were in a public space.
The attack that took place has revealed what kind of painful consequences can arise from untrue news and posts intentionally spread on social media without any basis in information or documentation. As a result of the clients being targeted through the misinformation spread during a confidential investigation process, a serious safety problem has occurred. At this point, we invite everyone to act with common sense and care, to be careful against all misinformation, and to trust the state's institutions and the judicial process.”
