The General Directorate of Meteorology and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) have issued a warning for the snowfall that will be effective in Istanbul in the coming days. The cold air wave coming from Siberia will affect Istanbul severely, just as it will the rest of Turkey.
According to the Meteorological Service's 5-day weather forecast, sleet is expected in Istanbul tomorrow, and heavy snowfall is expected on Thursday. According to AKOM's statement, strong snowfall may be seen intermittently until Friday morning.
HEAVY SNOWFALL WARNING FOR ISTANBUL
The following statements were included in AKOM's announcement:
"Almost the entire country, especially Istanbul, will come under the influence of cold and rainy weather originating from Siberia. Temperatures, which are hovering around 7°C today, will drop to 4°C and below starting from the night hours, falling to levels conducive to snow. It is estimated that there will be sleet and, in some places, strong snowfall across the province until Friday morning."
FREEZING WARNING FROM İSKİ
The Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) also issued a warning to citizens via SMS. The message sent stated that water pipes and meters must be protected against freezing due to the cold weather.
The following statements were included in İSKİ's message:
"Due to the cold air wave that will be effective in Istanbul, in order to prevent malfunctions that may be caused by freezing, exposed water pipes and meters must be covered so that they do not come into contact with cold air and must be insulated with insulating material."
