'I do not forgive him': The feud between Ferdi Tayfur and Ata Demirer is back in the spotlight

Ferdi Tayfur, a legend of arabesque music, passed away on January 2 due to organ failure at the hospital where he was receiving treatment in Antalya. The news of the 79-year-old artist's death left his fans and the art world in mourning.

A ceremony was first held for Tayfur at the AKM. Following the ceremony at the AKM, he was laid to rest at the Yeniköy Cemetery after the funeral prayer held at the Levent Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque following the afternoon prayer.

In addition to the art world, many of his fans did not leave Ferdi Tayfur alone on his final journey. There was occasional overcrowding at the funeral ceremony.

Following Tayfur's death, the 'Berlin Kaplanı' (Berlin Tiger) controversy he had with Ata Demirer has returned to the agenda.

Ferdi Tayfur, who met with Ata Demirer on Yüksel Altuğ's program, told him upon seeing him that he had a film project titled "Lambalı Saz" (The Lute with a Lamp). Ata Demirer had described those moments with the following words: 

"Ferdi Abi told me the name of his screenplay and talked about things in that vein, such as it being about a character who migrated from Germany to Turkey and invented a lute with a lamp."

BERLİN KAPLANI STIRRED THINGS UP!

After the release of Berlin Kaplanı, the tension began with a press statement from Ferdi Tayfur. In his statement, Tayfur said, "I cannot describe my astonishment and the shock I felt when I watched the film. He stole my 'Lambalı Saz' screenplay, which I wrote based on a story I lived with my uncle and sent to him to read 3 years ago. Before my health problems, I had offered him a role in the film on Fuat Güner's program. 

Ata did not get back to me later. He stole my notarized screenplay. He adapted it into the film 'Berlin Kaplanı'. I had made a note in the script saying, 'Orhan Ayhan will narrate the boxing match.' He even used that. He shouldn't think that I will let this slide. I will make him pay for this through legal channels. Shame on him," he said.

Then, the next move came from Ata Demirer. The famous actor applied to the court on the grounds that the allegations targeting him and the film "Berlin Kaplanı" had reached the "dimension of slander and attack."

ATA DEMİRER WON THE CASE!

The lawsuit filed by Ata Demirer concluded two years later, and the court ruled that the screenplay of "Berlin Kaplanı" belonged to Demirer and that Tayfur had no rights over the film. Thus, Ata Demirer won the case.

HE HAD SAID “I DO NOT FORGIVE YOU”

The master artist, who lost the case, had stated that he suffered a stroke out of sadness because Berlin Kaplanı was filmed by quoting his own screenplay, and he declared that he would never forgive Ata Demirer.
