Veteran actress Oya Başar shared with the public for the first time the moments she received the news of the death of her ex-husband Levent Kırca, who passed away 10 years ago.
As a guest on the program Yasemin’in Penceresi, Başar spoke candidly about everything from Kırca’s illness process to his final night.
Levent Kırca, who was receiving chemotherapy for liver cancer, passed away in 2015. Oya Başar and Kırca married in 1985, divorced in 2000, remarried in 2001, and ended their second marriage in 2005.
Becoming emotional during the program, Oya Başar stated that Kırca kept his distance from treatment during his illness, saying, “Our children Umut and Ayşe were following him closely, and so was I.
However, he was in a relationship at the time, and because of that, I couldn't get too involved. I would call him occasionally and say, ‘Levent, dear, since I went through cancer myself, I had taken you to see many doctors back then,’” she said.
“I WANT TO DIE THIS WAY”
Emphasizing that Levent Kırca firmly rejected treatment, Başar said, “Our son was constantly by his father’s side, but Levent didn't want anything. He didn't check into the hospital we suggested, and he didn't go to the doctor we recommended. He said, ‘I want to die this way.’ He had clearly accepted death,” she spoke.
THE NIGHT THE NEWS OF HIS DEATH ARRIVED
Oya Başar recounted the moment she received the painful news with these words: “It was five past two in the morning, the phone rang. At that hour, only such news could come. My son called and said, ‘Mom, we lost my father.’ We live as long as it is written in life, but there is some benefit in resisting.”
Expressing that the disappointments Levent Kırca experienced affected him deeply, Başar said, “He was very saddened by many things after he left me. I was a balancing factor for him. When you are very successful, when you are applauded a lot, losing that success over time creates a serious collapse in a person. I think these things affected him.”
“I ALWAYS LOVED HIM VERY MUCH”
Oya Başar concluded her words with the following statements:
“We wanted to do everything in our power, but Levent did not accept a hospital or a doctor. He did not want help. Despite this, I always loved him very much.”
