Snowfall takes hold of Istanbul! Warning from İmamoğlu: 'Do not go out with your vehicles'
The snowfall, which has been effective in Istanbul after many years, has negatively impacted daily life. As temperatures dropped following warnings from AKOM, traffic and ferry services were disrupted. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu warned citizens not to go out in their private vehicles.

Citizens living in Istanbul have felt the impact of snowfall again after many years. Air and sea voyages have been canceled. Drivers experienced difficult moments in traffic due to the snowfall.

WARNING FROM AKOM
In a statement made by AKOM, it was noted: "The precipitation seen in our northern regions in the morning hours is expected to be effective as sleet, and as snow in higher regions, primarily on the European side until noon, and on the Anatolian side from noon onwards. It is estimated that the precipitation, which has been effective since the beginning of February, will leave our region starting from the evening hours, and temperatures will approach seasonal norms starting from Thursday."
The wind is expected to blow from the northeast, harsh and intermittently strong today. While it was noted that wind speeds could reach 60 kilometers per hour in some places, the air temperature will reach a maximum of 4 degrees.
İMAMOĞLU WARNED: DO NOT GO OUT WITH PRIVATE VEHICLES
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu warned citizens about the snowfall. Making a statement via X, İmamoğlu used the following expressions:
"Our teams worked until the morning hours to ensure that traffic is not disrupted due to the heavy snowfall, which is showing its effect especially in the northern districts of Istanbul. The precipitation will continue to show its effect in the inner parts of the city today. There is no serious disruption in our areas of responsibility.
📌We are continuously in the field with 11,916 personnel and 3,375 vehicles
📌Solution works are continuing at necessary points
📌We are providing shelter, nutrition, and care support for our homeless citizens; we have been hosting 626 citizens since last night.
📌We are also distributing food for stray animals at 520 points
📌Unless it is mandatory, do not go out into traffic with your personal vehicles; prefer public transportation
📌Due to the drop in temperature, icing is seen in some places; it is essential that vehicles without winter tires do not go out into traffic under any circumstances."
