A woman living in Shangrao, in eastern China, brought home about one kilogram of gold she had withdrawn from the bank to sell. However, during cleaning the next morning, the package containing the gold was mistaken for waste by her sister, who left it in a trash container on the street. Realizing the loss shortly after, the family immediately contacted waste collectors and authorities.
It was discovered that the container where the package had been accidentally discarded had been emptied shortly after the incident, and the waste inside had been sent to a nearby recycling facility. Following this development, the family and police teams began a race against time to find the missing gold.
The search, which involved dozens of municipal workers and police officers, began at the entrance of the facility. Garbage trucks were stopped one by one; approximately 10 tons of household waste were meticulously sifted through. At the end of the long and feverish effort, the gold, which held significant financial value, was recovered.
Examinations revealed that the gold had been recovered almost entirely intact.
