CAUGHT IN AN AVALANCHE
It was stated that Momtsis, who had gone skiing in the Borovets region of Bulgaria with three friends, was caught in an avalanche while descending the steepest part of the slope.
It was reported that his three companions survived, but 36-year-old Momtsis could not be saved.
'THEY HAD NO GPS DEVICES'
Search and rescue team leader Stefan Hristov stated that they did not have GPS devices with them and used the following expressions:
"We saw Momtsis and those with him descending from a very steep angle in the most difficult part of the slope. They did not have backpacks or GPS devices; if they had, we could have found them much earlier. They were caught under a 2-meter-thick avalanche that came down behind them."
