Levent donated the proceeds from the concert to the Champion Angels Living Association, which was established for the young athletes who lost their lives at the ISIAS Hotel in the February 6 earthquakes.
Expressing his feelings after the concert, Levent stated, "Our pain remains fresh. I will attend the hearing for the TRNC volleyball players who lost their lives at the ISIAS Hotel, which will take place on January 3, 2024."
The investigation by the Adıyaman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the collapsed Isias Hotel, where 72 people, including athletes, teachers, and tour guides from the TRNC, lost their lives in the earthquakes, has been completed.
The indictment, which demands prison sentences ranging from 2 years and 8 months to 22 years and 6 months for 11 defendants—5 of whom are in custody—on charges of "causing the death and injury of more than one person through conscious negligence," has been accepted by the Adıyaman 3rd High Criminal Court.
The trial of the defendants will begin on January 3, 2024.
Relatives of the Turkish Cypriot athletes who lost their lives at the hotel had launched a struggle and organized protests to ensure that those responsible for the earthquake disaster are tried for "probable intent" rather than "negligence."
FROM THE INDICTMENT
The indictment, prepared on November 17, included an expert report prepared by the Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, regarding the culpability of the defendants.
The report stated that there were deficiencies in the stirrup spacing, hook properties, lap lengths, anchorage, and development lengths of the columns and beams within the scope of the file, that the lack of reinforcement details could be one of the reasons for the building's collapse, and that the concrete compressive strengths did not meet the necessary requirements according to the evaluation criteria in the TS EN 13791 standard.
The indictment noted that the defendants did not sufficiently comply with the principles of the Regulation on Buildings to be Built in Earthquake Zones, which was in effect at the time of the building's construction, and that they were at fault in the collapse of the building by acting contrary to the technical requirements necessitated by science and engineering at the time.
