The actress, who made a name for herself with the royal parody The Windsors on Channel 4, later portrayed Lady Susan Hussey in the Netflix drama The Crown. The actress, who was nominated for Tony and Olivier awards, had her breakthrough in the 1980s with Drop the Dead Donkey. She was nominated for a BAFTA in 1992.
The actress, who also performed alongside Helen Mirren in the film The Audience and in Billy Elliot the Musical, was most recently planning to star in Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends.
However, she announced last month that she would not be taking part in the production due to personal reasons.
