Actor and General President of the DİSK-affiliated Sine-Sen Mehmet Esen filed his candidacy for Adalar Mayor from the CHP in the local elections to be held on March 31, 2024.

Many well-known figures, including Zülfü Livaneli, Vedat Milor, Talat Bulut, Ferdi Eğilmez, Şevket Çoruh, Müfit Can Saçıntı, Nevzat Çelik, and Bülent Çolak, shared messages of support for Esen.

Esen stated, "I am happy to receive the support of the public and esteemed names in the industry."

Ferdi Eğilmez said, "He knows the problems of the Adalar well, is a solution-oriented person, and a good artist."

Şevket Çoruh commented, "A name that will suit the Adalar very well."

Vedat Milor said, "I think he is a hope for the Adalar."

Highlights from Mehmet Esen's statements:

• A veterinary clinic and shelters for stray animals will be built in the region. Animals will not be left hungry or out in the cold during the winter months.
• We will build care, rest, and socialization homes for the elderly. If necessary, we will pick up the elderly from their homes by vehicle and drop them back off at the end of the day. Refreshments during the day will be free of charge.
• I will use my international connections and benefit from European funds. I will bring important artists to the Adalar. I want to serve as a bridge between artists for 5 years.
• Making underwater tourism attractive is among my goals. The local fishing culture and economy need to be protected.
• We will create an area around the Adalar where fish can spawn and grow.
• Participation in artistic and sports activities in the Adalar will be free. Additionally, no fees will be charged for mathematics and foreign language courses.
• As someone who sleeps an average of 4-5 hours a day, I will solve all problems with quick touches.
• On September 1, 2023, we laid my mother, Suzan Esen, to rest in Burgazada, which she loved very much. I will look after the Adalar just as I looked after my mother.

WHO IS MEHMET ESEN?

Mehmet Esen was born in Istanbul in 1958. Influenced by Münir Özkul, whom he watched on stage, and having become interested in acting during his primary school years, Esen stepped into the world of theater with the play 'Bozkır Dirliği'.

During his student years, he received training at the Ankara Experimental Stage (Ankara Deneme Sahnesi). Later, he joined the Revolutionary Ankara Art Theater (DAST).

He began performing as a meddah (traditional storyteller) for the first time under the guidance of Haldun Taner as an apprentice to Münir Özkul.

He performed in the meddah plays 'Düş ve Gerçek', written by Erol Toy, and 'Kaşif-i Eyvah Nadir Efendi', written by Ahmet Önel, both directed by Münir Özkul.

He also took part in the Dostlar Theater for a period.

Mehmet Esen won the 'Best Actor' award at the 2022 Montreal Film Festival for his performance in the short film 'Kayıp', directed and written by Ekin Onat.

The master actor has also appeared in TV series such as Şaşıfelek Çıkmazı, Arka Sokaklar, EDHO, Kış Güneşi, and Bir Delice Sevda.
