Hollywood actor Donald Sutherland has passed away

The news of the death of Donald Sutherland, who appeared in many projects from the 1960s to the 2020s and made a name for himself with productions such as M*A*S*H, The Hunger Games, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, was announced on social media by his son, fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland.

Sutherland said the following in a post on his social media account:

"With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived."

Sutherland, who received a lifetime achievement award in 2017, had said, "I would like to say thank you to all the characters I've played, thank you for using their lives to inform my life."

WHO IS DONALD SUTHERLAND?

Donald McNichol Sutherland (July 17, 1935 - June 20, 2024) was a Canadian actor. He received higher education in engineering and drama. He is considered one of his country's most prolific, versatile, and respected actors and is described by many critics as one of the best actors never to have received an Oscar nomination.

Sutherland rose to fame with successful films of the era such as M*A*S*H (1970), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Klute (1971), Don't Look Now (1973), 1900 (1976), and Ordinary People (1980), and continued his career mostly as a character actor from the late 80s onwards.

In recent years, he starred in The Hunger Games film series. He is the father of Kiefer Sutherland.

Sutherland died on June 20, 2024, in Miami at the age of 88 after a long illness.
