How to use air conditioning efficiently in summer: Pay attention to the balance of temperature, humidity, and maintenance

With rising temperatures in the summer months, air conditioners are being used more intensively in both homes and workplaces. While this increases energy consumption, it is possible to both maintain comfort and limit electricity usage through correct usage habits.

Yaşar Karakaya, Operations Coordinator at Üçay Mühendislik Akademi, stated that focusing solely on the temperature setting is not enough when using air conditioning. According to Karakaya, indoor comfort should be evaluated alongside factors such as humidity levels, air circulation, solar heat gain, system capacity, and regular maintenance.

Karakaya stated that the criteria of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) are an important reference during the summer period, noting that the ideal temperature range should be 23-26°C. It was emphasized that lower temperature settings do not always increase user comfort, but can significantly increase electricity consumption.

According to experts, neglecting maintenance not only increases energy consumption but can also negatively affect indoor air quality and device performance. For this reason, periodic maintenance is just as critical as usage habits for ensuring air conditioners operate efficiently during the summer months.
