In a report based on intelligence tests of 1 million 691 thousand 740 people from a total of 115 countries, Turkey ranked 73rd out of 105 countries in the IQ (intelligence quotient) rankings.

Turkey's IQ dropped by 1.5 points in the last year to 95.63. In contrast, increases in IQ were observed among the populations of European and East Asian countries in particular.

While an average intelligence of 100 is used as the baseline, scores above 100 are considered above average, and scores below 100 are considered below average. An IQ below 70 is defined as intellectually disabled.

CITIZENS OF THE SMARTEST COUNTRIES

According to the International IQ Research and Assessment, in 2024 (based on the end of 2023), the citizens of the smartest country were South Koreans with an average of 107.54. South Korea is followed by the Chinese with 106.99, Iranians with 106.84, and the Japanese with 106.18.

The IQ rate was determined to be 106.18 in Singapore, 102.71 in Austria, 102.60 in Canada, 102.36 in Germany, 102.31 in Slovenia, and 102.30 in Mongolia.

While the top 10 are ranked this way, increases were observed in their average intelligence scores. Those with the highest increase in intelligence were the French, Italians, and Spaniards. Only in Japan did the rate decline by 1.96 in the last year, falling to 106.18.

TURKEY IS BELOW AVERAGE

An increase in average intelligence was observed in approximately 80 percent of the countries. The majority of Turkey appears to be of average intelligence or near the lower limit. 42,801 people were tested on behalf of Turkey, and the intelligence rate decreased by 1.5 points compared to the previous year, falling to 95.63 in the 2024 IQ statistics.

Countries such as Bangladesh, Romania, the Philippines, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Peru are slightly above Turkey. At the bottom of the list are countries such as Nicaragua, Guatemala, Congo, Angola, and Gabon, with intelligence rates falling below 90 percent.

WHY IS OUR IQ DROPPING?

It is stated that 75 percent of intelligence levels are genetic, while 25 percent are due to environmental and other factors. Education is also an important factor. Fatty foods and the consumption of unsaturated fats negatively affect brain function.

Apart from this, multitasking, excessive social media use, watching television, irregular sleep, excessive stress, and high sugar consumption also have a negative impact on IQ.
