Istanbul took the top spot on the "World's Most Visited Cities" list in 2023. Istanbul, which ranked first last year with 20 million 200 thousand visitors, was followed by London with 18 million 800 thousand visitors in second place, and Dubai with 16 million 800 thousand visitors in third.

ANTALYA IS ALSO ON THE LIST

Antalya ranked fourth on the list with 15 million 700 thousand visitors. While the French capital Paris became the fifth most visited city, Hong Kong, which regularly ranked at the top of the world's most visited cities before the coronavirus pandemic, found itself in 6th place this time.

VISITOR NUMBERS TO ISTANBUL EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN 2024

For Istanbul, which ranked first in the list of most visited cities, the number of visitors is expected to increase in 2024 as well. Investigating the most important reasons for Istanbul's rise to the top spot, "Time Out" magazine wrote that Turkey's easing of visa requirements for travelers from the US and Canada, combined with its dazzling views, cultural richness, shopping opportunities, historical wealth, and the blending of Asian and European cultures, are reasons why the city is becoming increasingly popular.

The research stated that London, the second most visited city, reached its pre-pandemic level once again with 18.8 million visitors, and that despite leaving the EU, the British capital continues to be one of the world's most popular travel destinations.

It was noted that Dubai, the third most visited city in the world, has become more popular in recent years by standing out with its impressive skyscrapers like the Burj Khalifa, its summer heat, and its lifestyle, while combining traditional Arab culture with modern culture.
