The observations made by master artist Metin Akpınar in a television program he attended years ago have become a trending topic on social media once again.

The remarks made by master artist Metin Akpınar years ago on the program Siyaset Meydanı, hosted by Ali Kırca, have become one of the most-watched videos on social media.

Sharing his observations on education, politics, rural-to-urban migration, and human relations, Akpınar used the following expressions in his speech from 20 years ago:

 

“We live in a country with a 100-year gap. This 100-year difference has increased even further due to consanguineous marriages resulting from a carbohydrate-based diet. We have also failed to carry education forward.

Uneducated, poorly nourished, and exploited crowds began to migrate to the west. When they started migrating to the west, patronage and protection became a very important phenomenon.

We told this society to ‘hold onto the rope of God,’ but we couldn't hold on; it slipped away. We couldn't pull it together. We said let’s put ethics and aesthetics in their place. We couldn't produce that either; it slipped away. With the logic of ‘What can we gather around? We can gather around self-interest,’ everyone is looking for their own benefit and expecting patronage and protection.

Especially when migrating from rural areas to the city, they inevitably go to a fellow townsman. They ask for a job from them and then step into politics from there. For example, they enter the Provincial General Assembly. Politics ends up being managed by these people whom we have not educated, whom we have neglected, whom we have not schooled, and who have not learned or caught up with the world.”
