Reactions from pro-government circles continue to rise against the declaration titled "We Defend Secularism Together," which was published with the signatures of 168 people, including artists, academics, journalists, and representatives of professional chambers.
Metin Şentürk, who is among the artists close to the government, has recently joined the debate.
Sharing a video on his social media account, Şentürk used harsh language toward those who prepared the declaration.
Şentürk's words, "Friends have published a declaration. Regarding secularism being lost. I am addressing the brainless who try to turn religion into criminal organizations for profit," drew backlash. The artist claimed that the names in the declaration were insulting religious values through the issue of secularism.
Şentürk used the following expressions in his post:
"In a country where more than 90 percent are Muslim; those who pray, pray, and those who do not, do not. Those who fast, fast, and those who do not, do not. On Fridays, those who go to Friday prayers go, and those who do not, do not; no one says anything to anyone.
This country was tested on July 15, this country was tested through Alevism, Sunnism; sectarian debates. This country was tested through Kurdish-Turkish brotherhood. Are you not ashamed?"
