A graduate of the Koç University Faculty of Medicine, İdil Bilgen was crowned Miss Turkey 2024. However, she received negative comments from some segments on social media. In response to these criticisms, Bilgen emphasized that beauty is not limited to physical appearance, and that elements such as grace, knowledge, and the ability to express oneself are also important.

Traveling to India for the Miss World pageant, Bilgen successfully represented our country by advancing to the quarterfinals. The Miss World organization stated that Bilgen has proven that true beauty lies in compassion and courage. The final of the competition will take place in Hyderabad on May 31.

CRITICISM OF BEAUTY STANDARDS

Speaking to the Ukrainian press, Bilgen criticized the pressure that beauty standards place on young women.

'As a woman on a global platform where beauty is both celebrated and questioned, I feel the responsibility to share an important message. And I am speaking to the women who are listening to this. In an era driven by the digital world, young women feel significant pressure to conform to beauty standards shaped by societal expectations. And it has reached a point where we have forgotten the grace of being ourselves.'

SELF-LOVE IS THE KEY TO TRUE BEAUTY

Despite the criticism she received on social media, Bilgen stated that in an era where individuality is celebrated, it is meaningless for everyone to try to be the same. Unlike cosmetic procedures performed for health reasons, she argued that aesthetic changes driven by societal pressure should be questioned. According to Bilgen, true beauty comes from accepting and loving ourselves in our most natural state.
