Mount Ararat climbers' hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes freeze
A team of mountaineers climbing Mount Ararat, Turkey's highest peak, had an unforgettable experience in challenging weather conditions. The hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes of the team members, who climbed to reach the summit of the 5,137-meter mountain, froze.

Mount Ararat, located in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı and standing as Turkey's highest peak at 5,137 meters, continues to be a favorite for mountaineers with its snow-capped summit throughout all four seasons. The team that arrived in the district for the climb reached the Çevirme hamlet by minibus, accompanied by guide Resul Civaş.
From there, the team loaded their climbing equipment and belongings onto horses and hiked to the base camp at an altitude of 3,200 meters. After spending the first night in tents at the campsite to acclimatize to the high altitude, the mountaineers continued their climb the next day from where they left off. They navigated difficult trails to reach the second campsite at an altitude of 4,200 meters. After resting and gathering energy there, the team put on their winter gear at midnight and began the summit push.
During the climb, the team members' hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes froze due to heavy snowfall, fog, and freezing temperatures. Reaching the point where the glaciers begin at an altitude of approximately 5,000 meters, the mountaineers put on their crampons before dawn and continued their trek toward the summit. Watching the sunrise from the peak of Mount Ararat, the team began their descent after a short break and successfully completed the climb.
In his statement, guide Resul Civaş noted that this particular climb was quite difficult due to snowfall, cold weather, and fog. Civaş drew attention to the importance of the patience and perseverance shown by the mountaineers against the forces of nature.
