Muazzez Akkaya Giray, the inspiration for the poem 'Mona Roza', has passed away
Muazzez Akkaya Giray, one of the notable figures in Turkish literature, has passed away at her home in Istanbul at the age of 95.

Born in 1930 in the Geyve district of Sakarya, Muazzez Akkaya Giray completed her boarding education at Kandilli Girls' High School in 1948, and subsequently enrolled in the Finance Department of the Mülkiye Mektebi (School of Political Science) in Ankara in 1949.
During her time there, she studied in the same class as renowned Turkish poets Sezai Karakoç and Cemal Süreya. After graduating from the Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1954, Giray continued her career as a Treasury lawyer.
Diagnosed with gallbladder cancer about a year ago, Giray underwent treatment for some time. However, she succumbed to the illness and passed away at her home in Istanbul. Muazzez Akkaya Giray's funeral will be held on Monday, June 9, at the Fenerbahçe Mosque, and she will be laid to rest at the Karacaahmet Cemetery following the noon prayer.
Muazzez Akkaya Giray was also known as the person who inspired Sezai Karakoç's famous poem "Mona Roza." Her life will continue to be remembered alongside this poem, which left a mark on Turkish literature.
