Mustafa Sandal comments on police buildup at Valens Aqueduct: 'If only the same were true for our borders'

As security measures were taken early in the morning for May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day at Saraçhane Square in Istanbul, crowds began to gather. Roads leading to Taksim were closed by the police. The police effectively amassed at the Valens Aqueduct. Singer Mustafa Sandal commented on the police buildup with these words: 'If only the same were true for our borders...'

On May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day, confederations, unions, labor groups, and political party representatives who wanted to celebrate May 1st, after being denied permission to celebrate in Taksim Square, gathered in Saraçhane.

At the Valens Aqueduct, the police effectively amassed. While the road was blocked with water cannons (TOMA) and barriers, snipers in the surrounding area drew attention.
