While the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) continues to debate the stray animal law before going on recess, deputies are taking turns to deliver their speeches.

IYI Party Kocaeli Deputy Lütfü Türkkan, who made a statement regarding the law in question, also took the floor and made a noteworthy comment.

Sharing Türkkan's speech on his social media account, Mustafa Sandal added the following note:

"Well said, Mr. Deputy. Thank you for defending the rights of animals as a Turkish citizen and a deputy. I hope these words of yours will ring in the ears of those who signed that law, which has deeply wounded us, for a lifetime!"

HERE IS THAT SPEECH BY LÜTFÜ TÜRKKAN:

"We are drafting a law on how to kill animals; we are debating whether to burn or bury them after they are dead. We wonder why this law came before us when Turkey has so many other issues. We are debating how to kill dogs, to whom you entrust your lives and your livestock. This shame is enough for you. You say there is no money for retirees, yet establishing these shelters costs 176 billion liras..."

We have abandoned the Eastern Mediterranean to Israel... Are we aware of what we are doing? While Turkey has such important problems, while there is a refugee issue that has become a matter of national survival, we are debating how to kill dogs."

Have you lost your conscience this much, friends? Out of all the important issues, have you really come down to the issue of how to kill dogs?

This government has become a slave to money. That is why we are witnessing so much nonsense here."
