National diver Serkan Toprak has passed away after falling ill while performing breathing exercises at home with his daughter. Serkan Toprak, who died at the age of 45, had rescued 30 irregular migrants off the coast of Assos in 2019.

Serkan Toprak (45), a member of the National Freediving Team, has passed away at the hospital where he was taken after falling ill while performing breathing exercises at his father's house in the Menteşe district of Muğla.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 22:00 in the Menteşe district.

Toprak, who had come from Balıkesir to the Yenice neighborhood where his father lives for the Ramadan Feast holiday, fell ill while performing breathing exercises with his daughter Toprak Toprak, who is also a national diver.

Upon notification by his relatives to the 112 Emergency Call Center, medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

Serkan Toprak, who received initial intervention from the medical teams and was taken to the Muğla Training and Research Hospital, lost his life despite all interventions by the doctors.

HE HAD RESCUED 30 IRREGULAR MIGRANTS

Serkan Toprak, who passed away at the age of 45, had warned 30 irregular migrants attempting to travel illegally to the Greek island of Lesbos while he was conducting diving training off the coast of Assos in 2019, telling them that their boat would not withstand the journey, and had assisted Coast Guard officials in the rescue of the irregular migrants.
