Nesrin Sipahi's manager announces: 'Our artist is alive'

Claims had circulated that Turkish Classical Music artist Nesrin Sipahi had passed away. It has been learned that the reports on social media were untrue. Sipahi's manager, Zeynep Göktürk, stated, "Our artist is alive. She is in very good health."

Reports claiming that Nesrin Sipahi, a State Artist of the Republic of Turkey, had passed away were shared on various social media platforms.

The person who first announced the claim, which does not reflect the truth, was singer Onur Akay.

Following the reports that reached the public, it was learned that the master artist, who was among the most important headliners of the 60s, is alive.

'IN GOOD HEALTH'

Nesrin Sipahi's manager Zeynep Göktürk stated, "Our artist is alive. She is in very good health. She even has a duet project. We are going into a meeting for that. We don't know what to say to those who spread fake news."

Nesrin Sipahi was last seen at the premiere of the film Zaferin Rengi (The Color of Victory).

WHO IS NESRİN SİPAHİ?

Nesrin Sipahi was born in Istanbul on October 29, 1934. She began her music education by taking classical Western music and vocal lessons. When her talent for classical Turkish music was noticed, she took lessons from the great composer Şerif İçli. While being invited to individual programs at Istanbul Radio, she took an exam and started working as a staff artist at TRT Ankara Radio in 1953.

At the radio, she worked with the great masters of the period such as Ferit Ruşen Kam, Refik Ahmet Sevengil, Halil Bedii Yönetken, Suphi Ziya Özbekkan, and Ekrem Güyer. Her first record, titled "Bir rüzgârdır gelir geçer sanmıştım," was released by Odeon Record Company in 1957.

In 1965, she starred in the musical film "Kalbimdeki Serseri," in which she shared the lead role with Tamer Yiğit. In 1974, she sang "Yaşa Fenerbahçe," the first known anthem of the club, with the Fenerbahçe football players of that period, with lyrics by Fecri Ebcioğlu.

Nesrin Sipahi performed the songs used in the 1965 film "Veda Busesi," directed by Ülkü Erakalın. The song titled "Veda Busesi," composed by Yusuf Nalkesen and used in the film starring Türkan Şoray and Tunç Okan, broke sales records and earned Sipahi a Gold Record Award.

In 1998, she was awarded the title of State Artist by the Ministry of Culture. The artist, who also worked as a headliner in music halls for many years, was deemed worthy of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Special Award in 2016 for her contributions to music. Nesrin Sipahi received her award from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at a ceremony held at the Presidential Complex on February 9, 2017.
