A new development has occurred in the traffic accident that took place in Ankara, in which Haydar Ulusoy, the father of model Özge Ulusoy, lost his life. The Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has objected to the upholding of the 4-year, 5-month, and 10-day prison sentence given to university student Elif Nasır Nalbant, who was held responsible for the accident.
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested that the verdict be overturned, stating that Haydar Ulusoy had attempted to cross the road without using the pedestrian crossings.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
The incident occurred on December 4, 2022, on Turan Güneş Boulevard in Çankaya. While crossing the road, Haydar Ulusoy was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by Elif Nasır Nalbant, who was traveling at a speed of 72 kilometers per hour, exceeding the speed limit.
Nalbant, who was initially sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison, had her sentence increased by the appellate court on the grounds of "conscious negligence" for exceeding the speed limit. The 12th Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court upheld this decision, but the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected and requested that the file be sent to the Supreme Court General Assembly of Criminal Chambers.
FAMILY STATEMENTS AND SUICIDE ATTEMPT
Elif Nasır Nalbant's mother, Pakize Nalbant, expressed the psychological pressure her daughter has been under, stating, "This was an accident; it was not intentional. My daughter is serving the sentence given by justice. However, she attempted suicide due to being targeted on social media." Stating that Özge Ulusoy's social media posts put her daughter in a difficult position, the mother emphasized her trust in justice.
SUPREME COURT DECISION AWAITED
The defendant's lawyer, Özge İrem Aksu, stated that the incident was a traffic accident and that everyone should serve the penalty for the crime they committed. Aksu said, "We believe that Elif should be reintegrated into society. We are waiting for the decision to be made by the Supreme Court Criminal Board."
