The trial of presenter Seren Serengil, who was sued by singer Hadise for allegedly making offensive remarks such as 'characterless, liar, even if she takes it to court, all her filth' by claiming that she had an affair with Reza Zarrab, continued.

In the hearing held at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance, complainant Hadise Açıkgöz was represented by her lawyer Orhan Erol Müezzinoğlu, while the defendant Seren Serengil, who is being tried without arrest, and her lawyer were present in court.

'WE WERE COMMENTING ON THE NEWS'

Making her defense in the hearing, defendant Serengil stated, "I have been doing a morning show for years. News about public figures is being commented on. In the program we did, we commented on the news that the complainant Hadise had an affair with Ebru Gündeş's ex-husband. During the program, referring to the complainant, I said, 'if she did such a characterless thing, she should come out and apologize.' The word 'characterless,' even when looking at the TDK dictionary, is not a word that contains an insult; it means 'weak character.' Furthermore, if I had done something criminal, RTÜK would have intervened in our channel, and such a thing did not happen."

'IF SHE IS NOT PUNISHED, SHE WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE THE SAME ATTACKS'

Complainant Hadise's lawyer, Müezzinoğlu, stated, "The defendant's defenses are not true. The defendant and her colleagues who work on the same program are systematically insulting my client based on non-current news. If the defendant is not punished, she will continue to make the same attacks on the client in a continuous manner. I request that she be punished."

PROSECUTOR'S OPINION ANNOUNCED

Announcing his opinion on the merits at the hearing, the public prosecutor explained that defendant Seren Serengil had made offensive remarks about the complainant Hadise, such as 'characterless, liar, even if she takes it to court, all her filth,' on the television program where she was a commentator.

REQUEST FOR UP TO 2 YEARS AND 11 MONTHS IN PRISON

In the announced opinion, it was requested that defendant Serengil be sentenced to between 4 months and 2 years and 11 months in prison for the crime of 'public insult via audio, written, or visual message' in a chain manner.

'I DO NOT KNOW HADISE'

Making a defense against the announced opinion, defendant Serengil said, "I definitely did not use insulting words. I do not know the complainant Hadise; why would I have any grudge or hatred against her? I request my acquittal."

HEARING ADJOURNED

The defendant's lawyer requested time from the court to prepare a defense against the prosecutor's opinion. Announcing its interim decision, the court ruled to grant the defendant's lawyer time to prepare a defense against the opinion and adjourned the hearing.
