In 2013, as part of the peace process, Orhan Gencebay, who served in the Black Sea region, had stated, “I have no regrets about the duty I took on. Being a 'Wise Person' is an honorable duty for me.”

Gencebay, who announced his departure from the role after some time, had cited the following reason for his decision:

“I was very pleased to take on this duty. However, I had to leave the 'Wise People' delegation because my health did not permit it. I have an arrhythmia in my heart. When I am stressed, my heart rate increases. My doctor has forbidden me from being stressed.”

A NEW ROLE YEARS LATER

Twelve years later, Orhan Gencebay has appeared as a member of the Culture and Arts Policies Board, following a decree published in the Official Gazette.

Gencebay is joined on the list by 13 other names.
