Özer Çiller laid to rest! Erdoğan and Akşener also attended the funeral

Özer Uçuran Çiller, the husband of former prime minister Tansu Çiller, suffered a heart attack at their home in Yeniköy the day before yesterday.

86-year-old Özer Çiller passed away.

A funeral ceremony was held for Çiller today at the Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque in Levent.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and former İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener also attended the ceremony.

Following the funeral prayer held after the noon prayer, Çiller was laid to rest at the Kilyos Cemetery.

WHO IS ÖZER UÇURAN ÇİLLER?

Özer Uçuran Çiller was born on September 21, 1937. He was an engineer and businessman. He was married to one of Turkey's former prime ministers, Tansu Çiller, and was a father of two. He took the surname "Çiller" after his marriage.

He was born as one of the two children of Ramiz Uçuran, the first and 30-year-serving headman (muhtar) and market owner of Caddebostan, and his wife İsmet Uçuran. After attending Saint Joseph French High School, he completed his engineering and master's degree studies at Robert College (Boğaziçi University).

He earned an MBA degree from Boston and Connecticut universities in the United States. Until 1975, he served as the Director of Economic Controls at the holding company Amatek Inc.

Having married Tansu Çiller in 1963, Özer Çiller returned to Turkey after living in America for 8 years and served as CEO at Çukurova Holding under Mehmet Emin Karamehmet.

In 1981, he founded Marsan Marmara Holding together with his wife Tansu Çiller. He also worked as a columnist for the newspapers Milliyet and Güneş.

Özer Uçuran Çiller passed away on June 1, 2024.
