Turhan's statement is as follows:
"Dear friends, I am Özgür Turhan. I am a comedian in our beautiful country. Tomorrow, I will give a statement in an insult case involving Cübbeli Ahmet Hoca. On Saturday, I will go to the police station to sign in because a lawsuit has been filed against me by Galatasaray; I have been going for about 9 months. Along with what I have been through, the threats I have received and the obstacles to the work I do seem minor compared to what I cannot even mention here.
Eti unilaterally terminated the contract, claiming that they suffered losses because I played in commercials that were not aired due to a tweet I posted. They filed a compensation lawsuit against me to cover their losses from the commercial. The amount they demanded from me, from the coffees they drank on the commercial set to the beyran soups, all expenses, is approximately 5 million TL. The case resulted against me in a way I could not understand.
"MY WIFE AND FRIENDS ARE COUNTING THE DAYS UNTIL I GO TO PRISON"
Before our show recording on Sunday, we reviewed every word we said to determine what was a crime and what was not. In a show where I am absolutely certain that I have not committed any crime according to our laws, my wife and friends are counting the days until I go to prison. My friends and acquaintances are under arrest or facing lawsuits only because they made jokes.
"I AM SAD"
I am a comedian; these things are happening to me in this country only because I share my jokes with you. I am very tired now. I am saddened by the state our country has reached, I am saddened for the future of our children, and I am saddened for myself. I am in a strange situation where I do not know what to do or what to say."
