El Chapo's mother, Maria Consuelo Loera Perez, passed away due to natural causes.
El Chapo's mother had contracted the Covid-19 virus in 2021.

Perez, who wrote a letter to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in March 2020 and even shook hands with him in an attempt to see her son El Chapo before she died, was unable to fulfill her wish.
Obrador had stated that every mother has the right to see her child, but expressed that being the mother of a mafia leader could not provide special treatment.
