Poet shepherd Aydın Battal, who lost the village headman election, becomes a TV series actor
Aydın Battal, a shepherd from Kırşehir who became a national sensation in Turkey after writing a poem following his unsuccessful bid for village headman, has joined the cast of the series Gönül Dağı.

Aydın Battal, who made headlines with a poem he wrote after running as a candidate for village headman (muhtar) in the 2024 local elections but failing to win, had previously announced that he had received offers from several TV series.
Citizens had been curious about which series Aydın Battal would appear in.
Battal announced on his social media account that he has taken a role in the series Gönül Dağı, which airs on TRT 1.
Sharing the first photo from the set on his social media account, Battal said, "Here I am, Gönül Dağı. We completed our first day on set today."
The poem Battal wrote after losing the headman election is as follows:
"There were three candidates and 300 votes in the village of Aşağı Homurlu. I received 29 votes and lost. When I started the election, I had three burdens on me. Being poor, being a shepherd, and writing and sharing poems on social media. I couldn't control my heart and I embarked on an adventure."
