Dried beans, one of the beloved dishes of Turkish cuisine, grace tables with their flavor, but they can cause gas problems for some people. However, a simple solution to this uncomfortable situation has been found: Cumin.
Adding a teaspoon of cumin to the pot during cooking significantly reduces the gas problem.
The reason dried beans cause gas is the complex carbohydrates called oligosaccharides they contain. When these components cannot be digested in the small intestine and pass into the large intestine, they are fermented by bacteria, which leads to gas formation.
Cumin contains natural components that facilitate digestion and prevent gas formation. Therefore, adding cumin to the pot while cooking dried beans can prevent the discomfort experienced after the meal.
To use cumin, soak the beans in water the night before and discard the boiling water. During cooking, add a pinch of cumin along with the beans and other ingredients. You can choose either powdered or whole cumin. Cook your meal as usual and enjoy gas-free beans.
