The We Will Stop Femicide Platform (KDCP) has released its monthly report on femicides. According to the report, Turkey has set a record of shame. In October alone, a total of 71 women were taken from life. This figure has been recorded as a record for femicides committed within a single month. 48 of these murders were committed by men, while the remaining 23 women lost their lives under suspicious circumstances.
'HALF OF THE MURDERS TOOK PLACE IN A DOMESTIC SETTING'
One of the striking points in the report was where and by whom the women were killed. According to the report, a significant portion of the murders were committed in their homes and by those closest to them. Nearly half of the murders took place in a domestic setting.
40 percent of the murdered women were taken from life by the men they were married to. The most common cause of death was firearms.
According to the report in Birgün, Women's Assemblies Representative Nuran Karahan emphasized that they had previously warned the government that femicides would increase, and that the effective implementation of Law No. 6284 on the Protection of Women from Violence could protect women's lives, but that the government has not taken any steps in this direction.
