Remarkable report: Life expectancy is increasing

Researchers predict that global life expectancy is expected to increase by approximately five years for men and more than four years for women over the next three decades.

According to a report published in The Lancet, these increases are expected to occur in countries where life expectancy is generally shorter.

Researchers stated that this trend is largely driven by public health measures that improve the prevention, detection, and treatment of heart disease, COVID-19, infectious diseases, and a range of health issues related to birth and nutrition.

However, they also identified shifts in the diseases affecting life expectancy.

Researchers said that chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and lung disease are expected to play a stronger role in people's lifespans than infectious diseases.

Consequently, risk factors such as obesity, high blood pressure, poor diet, lack of exercise, and smoking appear set to have the greatest impact on disease and life expectancy in the next generation.

'IT IS NECESSARY TO PREVENT RISK FACTORS'

In fact, researchers found that the number of years lost due to poor health and premature death caused by such metabolic risk factors has increased by 50% since 2000.

Dr. Chris Murray, lead researcher and chair of Health Metrics Sciences at the University of Washington, said, "There is a huge opportunity ahead of us to influence the future of global health by preventing these rising metabolic and nutritional risk factors, especially those associated with behavioral and lifestyle factors such as high blood sugar, high body mass index, and high blood pressure."

Researchers stated that overall life expectancy is projected to rise from 73.6 years in 2022 to 78.1 years in 2050.

The average number of years a person can expect to live in good health will increase from 64.8 years in 2022 to 67.4 years in 2050.

According to a recent report by the National Center for Health Statistics, life expectancy in the US rose from 76.4 in 2021 to 77.5 years in 2022.

Researchers said that global life expectancy is expected to increase as people in less fortunate countries catch up to developed nations and live longer.
