Residents of Rize react to TasteAtlas naming 'Collard Greens Soup' one of the world's worst dishes

TasteAtlas, considered one of the prestigious platforms in the gastronomy world, has announced the 100 worst dishes in the world. Collard Greens Soup, a staple of Black Sea cuisine, was also listed among the worst dishes.

"THE RANKING NEEDS TO BE REVIEWED"

Stating that collard greens soup is a preferred dish in the Eastern Black Sea region, Osman Kubilay Küçükmustafa said in Rize:

“If we look at it, it's a matter of personal taste. It is a preferred dish in the Eastern Black Sea. It is found on tables in Rize, Trabzon, and Artvin almost everywhere. It is very strange that Collard Greens Soup is in 7th place. I wonder how many people in the world have actually eaten collard greens. It has been on our tables since our childhood. It is among the dishes we eat the most. It has never failed to appeal to my palate. I haven't seen anyone in Rize say they don't like it. Young people eat it too. Our age groups are usually picky about food, but I haven't seen anyone who doesn't eat collard greens. The ranking needs to be reviewed” he said.

"THOSE WHO GAVE THIS RANKING HAVE NEVER EATEN CABBAGE"

Saying, "I think they haven't even seen cabbage," Mehmet Terzi added, “Those who gave this ranking have never eaten cabbage. I think they haven't even seen cabbage. They just made noise from afar. They eat insects and think it's good. Eating insects is allowed in the Far East. For example, when I see a snail, I feel nauseous. The one who calls that dish good criticized cabbage. They are talking nonsense. They have no culinary taste. They haven't seen a kitchen, nor have they eaten a proper meal. They eat snails and worms. They eat these things, there is nothing else they eat. It is especially delicious with cornbread. I wouldn't trade it for Adana kebab. Our cabbage soup is irreplaceable. It is a dish passed down from our grandfathers” he stated.

"BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T EATEN IT..."

Asking, "Collard greens soup is the best dish in the world. Who is saying these things? The Japanese?" İbrahim Bayraktar said the following:

“Collard greens soup is the best dish in the world. Who is saying these things? The Japanese? It is our local dish. It was chosen that way because they haven't eaten it. If they ate it once, they would see.”

Saying, "I think those who say that have been unfair to Rize," Veysel Bayraktar added, “We respect the food of every region. Don't say anything against cabbage. It is Rize's top-notch dish. You cannot give up on cabbage. Just as water is life, cabbage is life for us” he said.

"CAN YOU GIVE UP ON THIS DISH?"

Stating that it is especially delicious with cornbread, Şaban Taylan said, “Collard Greens soup is the best dish in the world. I love it very much. It is especially delicious with cornbread. I wish we had some to eat. The old days have passed. It is a dish passed down from our grandfathers. Can you give up on this dish? There is another pot at home” he said.
