At a restaurant in Nagoya, waitresses in kimonos provide a harsh experience for the customers who visit them every day.

This service, offered at the traditional Japanese izakaya, sometimes knocks customers off their chairs and causes strange sounds to rise from the venue.

The establishment, named Shachihoko-ya, which opened in 2012, was on the verge of closing as traditional habits gradually lost their popularity.

Later, the restaurant owners turned things around by offering a slapping service in addition to food and drinks.

In fact, it didn't just turn things around; it multiplied its popularity.

The restaurant owners have even hired new staff to satisfy customers who want to be slapped as an appetizer.

THOSE WHO WANT TO BE RED-FACED PAY MORE

Only female waitresses are allowed to slap customers at the restaurant.

Customers who want their cheeks to turn red must pay an additional fee of 500 yen (100 TL).

Local residents and tourists say they enjoy the slapping experience.

Located in Nishiki Sanchome, where the heart of Nagoya's nightlife beats, the restaurant has also made a name for itself with the costumes its staff wears.

While male waiters wear gold-colored jumpsuits inspired by the tavern's logo and fish-shaped hats, the female staff wear bright kimonos.
