Rip current claims two lives in the Black Sea: Father dies while trying to save his son
On June 21, 14-year-old Yusuf Eren Kurutçu, who entered the sea in the Arsin district of Trabzon, was caught in a rip current. Following the death of his father, Fatih Kurutçu, who disappeared in the current while trying to save his son, young Yusuf has also lost his battle for life in intensive care.

A picnic on the coast of Arsin, Trabzon, ended in tragedy. Yusuf Eren Kurutçu, who entered the sea to cool off, was caught in the Black Sea's notorious and dangerous rip current and faced the danger of drowning. Seeing his son struggling in the water, Fatih Kurutçu jumped in without hesitation, but the powerful current pulled him in as well.
Bystanders and traffic police patrolling the area noticed the incident and intervened immediately. As a result of the rapidly initiated rescue efforts, the father and son were pulled from the water. Both were brought to the shore with their hearts stopped; they were resuscitated through intensive interventions by medical teams and transferred to the hospital.
DEATHS THAT PLUNGED TRABZON INTO MOURNING
Fatih Kurutçu unfortunately lost his one-day battle for life at the hospital, and news of his passing arrived shortly thereafter.
Following his father, 14-year-old Yusuf Eren Kurutçu, who had been in intensive care at the same hospital for days, could not be saved despite all efforts and passed away. The news of the father and son's deaths, coming in short succession, has plunged the Kurutçu family and the people of Trabzon into deep mourning.
Experts have once again warned citizens entering the sea along the Black Sea coast to be cautious, especially regarding rip currents.
