Sculptor Pınar Öktem Doğan, who created the Eda Erdem statue, speaks out: 'Unfortunately, lighting was installed without my knowledge'

The statue of Fenerbahçe and Turkish National Women's Volleyball Team Captain Eda Erdem was unveiled at a ceremony at Ülker Stadium.

Expressing that she is very happy and proud, Erdem said, "I have been serving my club for 16 years. I have a very beautiful relationship with our fans and the community. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the statue. This statue will give me the strength to continue whenever I face a difficulty. As a female athlete, I try to be a role model for the younger generations while doing my job. We women are very strong; there is nothing we cannot do."

Following the opening ceremony, the form of the statue became a subject of debate on social media.

'THE PHOTOS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STATUE'

Speaking on the matter, sculptor Pınar Öktem Doğan said, "Unfortunately, lighting was installed without my knowledge, and the anatomy of the statue looks completely different due to the reflection. I got up and went back to the area to check. The photos have nothing to do with the actual statue."

Continuing her remarks, Doğan stated, "This statue reflects the unity of form and light. But because the wrong lighting was placed, it has ceased to be itself."
