Selda Bağcan, who was included in Time Magazine's list of "Legendary female singers alive" and has reached the world with her 52-year artistic career, made significant statements on the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
"A SEGMENT IS UNFORTUNATELY HOSTILE TO THE REPUBLIC"
In an interview with Sözcü, Bağcan said; "I was very excited, but this government is trying to dampen our excitement. I cannot believe what is being done. TRT is canceling celebrations. What a shameful thing. They are going to hold a solidarity rally for Palestine on October 28th. Why don't you hold the same rally on the 29th? Celebrate the Republic as well. There is no obstacle. A segment is unfortunately hostile to the Republic. In what lands, with what hostility did you grow up? Make peace with the Republic already. Rivers do not flow backward. This river has taken its course. If the Republic is a river, it will always move forward. Our excitement will not fade, it will not stop. The Republic will endure forever."
"I CRY WHEN ATATÜRK IS MENTIONED"
Stating that "Atatürk created a secular Turkey and these people cannot digest it," Selda Bağcan continued as follows:
"The Republic is everything. First of all, it is the reason for our existence today. Look at my father's father, my grandfather, and his 5 brothers. Six men from one family fell as martyrs in Gallipoli. All members of the family were martyred. I am a 3rd generation grandchild. Who could feel as much excitement for the Republic as I do? My family also had a share in the liberation of this country. We owe everything to it; this republic is the reason for our existence. I cry every November 10th when Atatürk is mentioned."
