She arrived in Bartın 29 years ago: Moldovan Nadejda Aksüt becomes a candidate for village head (muhtar) in Akbaş

Nadejda Aksüt (57) met Abdullah Aksüt (71) while working as a primary school teacher in Moldova. After marrying him, she moved to Turkey in 1995 and settled in the village of Akbaş in Bartın.

Aksüt, who is also a Turkish citizen, has become a candidate for village head (muhtar) in the village, which has 200 households and 612 voters, for the March 31 Local Elections.

'THEY TRUST ME A LOT'

Stating that her candidacy for village head was met with interest in the village, Nadejda Aksüt said, "After settling here, I grew to love this place and its citizens very much. I became a candidate to serve them. The citizens gave me a lot of support in this decision. I know they will support me. Hopefully, when I win, I will do everything for the village.

As I go door-to-door in the village, they give me courage, saying, 'You will be a great village head, you will serve us.' Some are very surprised when they hear I am Moldovan. They even ask me, 'Where have you been until now, why didn't you run before?' But they trust me a lot. I believe I will be successful," she said.

Nadejda Aksüt's husband, Abdullah Aksüt, said that he supports his wife and believes she will win.
