Sibel Kekilli awarded Order of Merit

Sibel Kekilli, known for her role in Fatih Akın's film 'Head-On' (Duvara Karşı) and the series 'Game of Thrones', has been honored with the Verdienstorden (Order of Merit) by the German state of Baden-Württemberg. She received the award from State Premier Winfried Kretschmann at a ceremony held in Stuttgart.

In her speech at the ceremony, Kekilli expressed her emotions, stating, 'The Baden-Württemberg State Order of Merit is not just a personal honor for me, but also signifies the recognition of the values I stand for.' The State Chancellery noted that Kekilli has contributed to change by drawing attention to social issues.

Speaking at the ceremony, Premier Kretschmann said, 'She is a role model who uses the power of art for social change. She opened up to the world through her acting, but her true victory has been her determination in the fight for women's rights. Today, this medal honors not only her achievements but also the face of Baden-Württemberg, which is strengthened by diversity.' Kretschmann emphasized that Kekilli is a universal value who combines art and activism.
