WARNING FOR HEAVY RAIN
The General Directorate of Meteorology has shared the current weather forecast for Istanbul. According to the statement, no precipitation is expected until February 3. However, heavy rain will begin as of February 3. For the long-awaited snowfall in Istanbul, the dates of February 4-5 stand out.
Meteorology expert Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen stated that a cold air wave originating from Siberia will affect Turkey next week and evaluated the possibility of snow in Istanbul.
WILL SIBERIAN COLD BRING SNOWFALL?
According to experts' statements, the temperature in Istanbul is currently hovering around 7-8 degrees. However, for snowfall to occur, the temperature needs to drop below 5 degrees.
Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen made the following statement regarding the possibility of snowfall:
"A cold air mass is coming next week, around the 4th or 5th of the month. This time, the cold air will drift in from Siberia rather than the Balkans. This cold air will cause snowfall in Turkey."
Emphasizing that the possibility of snowfall for Istanbul depends on the temperature level, Şen used the following expressions:
"For it to snow in Istanbul, the temperature must drop below 5 degrees. Can it drop? It can. If the daytime temperature drops below 5 degrees, snowfall may be seen in high areas on February 5, or even on the evening of February 4. If the temperature drops even further, there is a possibility of snow in the city center as well."
WHEN IS SNOWFALL EXPECTED IN ISTANBUL?
According to weather forecasts, the temperature in Istanbul will begin to drop starting from the evening of February 4. If the temperature falls below 5 degrees, snowfall may be seen in the high areas of Istanbul on February 5.
Regions with a high probability of snowfall:
Çamlıca Hill
Aydos Forest
Beykoz and its surroundings
High-altitude regions such as Maslak and Bahçeköy
If the cold air shows a stronger effect, the probability of snowfall in the central regions of the city may also increase.
WILL IT SNOW IN ISTANBUL?
Weather experts state that snowfall is entirely dependent on the temperature level. If the temperature remains above 5 degrees, rain or sleet may be seen in Istanbul.
However, if the Siberian cold is stronger than expected, the possibility of snowfall in Istanbul may strengthen as of February 5.
