Sinead O’Connor’s estate boycotts Trump over song usage

The estate of the late, renowned Irish singer Sinead O’Connor has demanded that former US President Donald Trump stop using her songs at his campaign rallies.

Last month, Trump played O’Connor’s most famous song, Nothing Compares 2 U, at a rally in Maryland.

In a statement to BBC News, the singer’s estate said, “It is no exaggeration to say that Sinead would have been disgusted, hurt, and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone she herself referred to as a ‘biblical devil’.”

'LIVED HER LIFE WITH KINDNESS'

In a joint statement, O’Connor’s estate and her longtime music label, Chrysalis Records, said, “It is well known that Sinead O’Connor lived her life with a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness, and decency towards her fellow human beings.

It was therefore with outrage that we learned that Donald Trump has been using her iconic performance of Nothing Compares 2 U at his political rallies. It is no exaggeration to say that Sinead would have been disgusted, hurt, and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone she herself referred to as a ‘biblical devil’.”

The statement concluded by saying, “As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately.”

SPENT FOUR WEEKS AT NUMBER ONE

According to a report by The Guardian, songs such as Abba’s “Dancing Queen,” Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire,” and Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds” were also played at the rally on February 24, where Trump took the stage.

The song, written by Prince and performed by O’Connor, spent four weeks at number one on the UK music charts in 1990.

O’Connor passed away last July at the age of 56, and an autopsy concluded that she died of natural causes.
