In the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, the appearance of snakes in swarms in the 'Snake Spring' (Yılan Pınarı) region between the villages of Yürekli and Karabağ both frightens and amazes those who see them.
The snakes, found in swarms along the road, resemble Brazil's 'Snake Island.' The snake swarms, which begin to emerge with the warm weather, attract the attention of onlookers.
"LEAVE THE AREA WITHOUT HARMING THE SNAKES"
Yüksekova Chamber of Agriculture President Perviz Geçirgen, who called for no harm to be done to the snakes—which are known to be non-venomous and emerge into open areas especially when people are not around—said, “We are at the 'Snake Spring' located in the Yürekli village of Yüksekova. Every year, between mid-April and early May, these harmless snakes emerge. This place also resembles Brazil's Snake Island.
These harmless snakes emerge and bask in the sun, especially between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. When people are not around, they come out onto both the rocks and the road. As we do every year, we came here again to see them. Actually, there is a magnificent view here. There are those who come here to take pictures and videos. Among those who come, some individuals harm the snakes. Please, when you take your photos, leave the area again without harming the snakes" he said.
