Statement on copyright lawsuit from Kemal Sunal's son Ali Sunal: 'There should be a Kemal Sunal law'

The heirs of the unforgettable name in Turkish cinema history, Kemal Sunal—Ali Sunal, Ezo Sunal Öztüyen, and Hafize Gülderen Sunal—filed a copyright lawsuit 10 years ago through their lawyers at the Istanbul 2nd Civil Court of Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights, stating that Kemal Sunal's films were being broadcast outside of cinema screenings and that the firm was generating unfair profit.
In the lawsuit petition, it was stated that 45 films in which Sunal starred between the 1970s and 1990s had been sold to various television channels and many digital platforms for years, beyond their theatrical releases, and that these films had been broadcast countless times; 'copyright' fees were demanded from 3 separate firms regarding the broadcasting of these films.
'WE ARE FIGHTING A BATTLE'
Kemal Sunal's actor son, Ali Sunal, attended an event in Istanbul the other evening.
Speaking to TV8, Sunal stated, "They exploited my father for years. Now we are fighting his battle. Our faith in the law is complete. Just as there is a Bosman ruling in football, there should be a Kemal Sunal law in cinema."
